The summer transfer window may have ended a week ago but clubs won't stop thinking about their next moves. Reports from Spain claim that Atletico Madrid have joined the race for a Milan player, considering making an €18 million offer that will include one of their players.

For the 2021-2022 season, the La Liga reigning champions haven't stayed quiet. They landed Argentine star and Copa America winning Rodrigo De Paul, sent Saul to Chelsea on loan, brought Antoine Griezmann back from Barcelona, and acquired Matheus Cunha.

But that wouldn't prevent Diego Simeone from seizing on an opportunity to keep on boosting his squad. Atleti will face a challenging season and they could strenghten themselves during the winter transfer window.

Atletico Madrid reportedly plan €18 million-plus-player offer to land Milan star

Over the last few days, PSG stole the headlines again for being linked with another potential move for a free agent next season. Defensive midfield Franck Kessie has become a coveted player as his Milan deal, which expires in June 2022, might not be extended.

While Liverpool were also linked to the Ivory Coast international, now Mundo Deportivo reports that Atletico Madrid would be interested in signing him. The Serie A giants would be unwilling to satisfy Kessie's demands but they don't want to see how history repeats itself and watch him leave for free.

In the last transfer window, they lost both Gianluigi Donnarumma, who joined Paris Saint-Germain, and Hakan Calhanoglu, who signed for lifelong rivals Inter, for nothing. Therefore, Milan would be open to selling Kessie in January if he doesn't renew his contract before then.

Atletico would try to land him for €18 million plus Mexican star Hector Herrera, who has struggled with injuries last season. Kessie's price tag would be around €30m, so it wouldn't be far from Milan's expectations. But it remains to be seen if they're interested in Herrera.

Although there's still a long way to go before the winter transfer market, what we know is that the Franck Kessie saga is just getting started. Unless he pens a new contract with Milan soon, he will continue to be linked with other European clubs.
