Despite having an undisputed bout in May against William Scull, attention is already focused on the potential showdown between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford, scheduled for September in Las Vegas. This fight promises to be a mega-event that will capture the attention of the boxing world.

Canelo, who vacated the IBF super middleweight world title last year by refusing to face mandatory challenger William Scull, is now looking to regain the belt and cement his status as the undisputed two-division champion. If Canelo manages to beat Scull, the stage will be set to welcome Crawford, also a world champion in four divisions, in a matchup that will define legacies.

Although Canelo initially downplayed the bout, describing it as “easy money” due to the weight difference, he has recently changed his tune, praising Crawford in statements to ESPN. “He’s a complete fighter,” Canelo said.

The challenge of weight gain for Crawford and the legacy at play

Crawford’s move up in weight to face Canelo poses a significant challenge. However, if Crawford manages to succeed, he will join Floyd Mayweather Jr. as one of the few boxers to win world titles in five different divisions. This achievement would further cement his legacy and place him among boxing’s all-time greats.
