Last Saturday, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. was seen losing to YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul inside the squared circle. The latest news on him state that he has been arrested for entering the United States illegally. According to the federal officials statement on Thursday, he will be deported to Mexico, where he is facing charges for organized crime.

A large number of federal agents picked Chavez Jr. in front of his home in Studio City. Michael Goldstein, who is his attorney, stated “The current allegations are outrageous and simply another headline to terrorize the community.“

Apparently, the Department of Homeland Security said Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested Chavez for overstaying a tourist visa that expired in February 2024. Chavez asked for a green card on April 2, 2024 due to his marriage to Frida Muñoz, a U.S. Citizen. She was previously married to Edgar Guzman Lopez, son of cartel kingpin Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman. Edgar was killed in 2008 in a targeted attack.

This is not Chavez Jr.’s first rodeo with the law

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. was destined to follow into his father footsteps. His namesake father is one of the most decorated boxers of all time. However, his boxing career and outside-of-the-ring actions have not been as exemplary as his father’s.

He has failed multiple drug tests, served suspensions, battled drug addictions and made fraudulent statements to governmental entities. Now, he should be back in Mexico for yet another legal procedure.

His boxing career has been intermitent too

He rose to become a world champion in 2011. However, he was never considered a top-tier boxer like his father was. His career was parallel to Canelo Alvarez and Sergio Martinez, who went to have generational careers. He actually shared the ring with both of them in losing efforts.

Chavez Jr. looked in the best shape he’s been in recent years for his bout with Jake Paul. The fight itself was disappointing. Chavez tried to push petal to the metal in the later rounds but it wasn’t enough for him to win the bout. His professional record is one 54-7-1-1NC.
