Kentucky gives Shai Gilgeous-Alexander an epic, old-school shoutout after making program history

Throughout the course of more than a century, the Kentucky Wildcats have always had strong rosters. They’ve built a winning tradition by getting some elite recruits.

That’s why it’s so crazy to see that, despite having countless first-round picks, NBA All-Stars, and even first-overall selections, the program had never produced an NBA MVP.

With that in mind, they turned back the clock and posted a full page on the paper to congratulate Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, their first-ever MVP.

We couldn’t be prouder of the man, teammate, player and leader you’ve become. You’ve always been one of one and now you’re not only playing with the best, you are the best. The first Kentucky Wildcat ever to be named NBA MVP. From your Wildcat family and all of Big Blue Nation: Congratulations, Shai,” read the post, which featured multiple pics of Gilgeous-Alexander.

Gilgeous-Alexander has gone on to shatter every pre-draft projection, and while his days on campus were short-lived, he might go down as one of the greatest NBA players in Wildcats history.

Hopefully, this will be the beginning of a new trend, as the program has had more than enough MVP-worthy talents enter the pros, and it’s about time they get some recognition.
