Russell Westbrook is one of the players that Nikola Jokic is expected to have on the roster for next season, following a previous campaign where both recorded impressive statistics for the Denver Nuggets. Amid these expectations, a recent report has emerged regarding Westbrook’s future with the team.

Westbrook, a seasoned veteran in the NBA, continues to display considerable talent at the age of 36. While some other stars in the league have excelled even at 40, Westbrook demonstrated during last season’s postseason with the Nuggets that he remains a formidable presence on the court.

As the Nuggets have refrained from making significant roster additions, preferring to retain the core of their squad for the upcoming training camp, speculation about potential player departures has intensified. According to a report from ESPN’s Tim McMahon, Westbrook might be among those exiting Denver.

Despite Westbrook’s impactful performance in the playoffs, his regular-season showing left much to be desired. This inconsistency might be a contributing factor to his potential departure, as McMahon reports that Westbrook is likely set to join another franchise next season.

“He won’t be returning to the Denver Nuggets after a roller-coaster season in which Westbrook finished seventh in the Sixth Man of the Year voting,” McMahon reported. “The all-time leader in triple-doubles won’t extend the narrative of storybook homecomings for future Hall of Fame point guards, similar to Damian Lillard and Chris Paul.”

Is there a plausible scenario where Westbrook returns to play for the Thunder next season? According to McMahon, although Westbrook is expected to have his jersey retired in Oklahoma City in the future, a reunion with the Thunder is not imminent.

“The Thunder will hang Westbrook’s No. 0 in the rafters post-retirement, but the defending champions have no room on their roster or inclination to disrupt the chemistry from their recent title run,” McMahon stated regarding Westbrook’s prospects.

However, McMahon suggests that the Sacramento Kings appear to be the most likely destination for Westbrook. “League sources consider the Sacramento Kings the most probable landing spot for Westbrook, who will turn 37 during the first month of the season,” McMahon wrote.
