After several weeks of uncertainty, the Colts have finally decided who will lead the offense this year. Against all odds, the AFC South team selected Daniel Jones as their starter, relegating Anthony Richardson to the backup role.

For many fans, this is a clear sign that the team may try to part ways with Richardson soon. Now, Shane Steichen has given an update on the matter that could be a hint at the franchise’s long-term plans for the former 4th overall pick.

Unfortunately, this is not the only concerning news for the former Florida standout. Steichen also revealed that the Colts view Jones as their starter for the entire 2025 NFL season and won’t rush to make a change if things don’t immediately work out.

“He’s our starting quarterback for the season,” head coach Shane Steichen said, via Max Lewis of Fox 59. “I don’t want to have a quick leash on that. I feel confident in his abilities.”

This update is another setback for Richardson’s chances of reclaiming the job. After two underwhelming seasons, it seems the Colts no longer see him as part of their future, and parting ways appears to be the most likely outcome.

Daniel Jones, meanwhile, now has a new opportunity to prove himself in the league. Even though he has won the battle against Richardson, all eyes will be on him to see if he can become the franchise quarterback the Giants once expected him to be.

The Colts might keep him on the roster for now, but the most logical move would be to trade him. However, it won’t be easy to find a team willing to take a chance—especially if Indianapolis sets a high asking price for the former first-round pick.
