The Indianapolis Colts are hoping the upcoming regular season will be an improvement on last year, when they won just 8 of 17 games and missed the postseason. However, with the bad news of Anthony Richardson’s dislocated finger, the franchise had to make a tough decision.
Richardson injured the finger on his throwing hand during a preseason game. The Colts deemed it too risky for him to continue playing in the preseason, so they made the call to shut him down for the remainder of the games to ensure his injury heals properly.
“Colts QB Anthony Richardson (finger) has been declared out for the rest of Indy’s preseason game in Baltimore. Frustrating ending to the evening, I’m sure, for a guy who can’t seem to stay healthy,” Albert Breer reported.
Richardson Appears to Be Recovering
Richardson himself has reportedly said he feels better, despite many people seeing his pinky finger dislocate on TV. He stated he wasn’t expecting that kind of hit from the Ravens player in a game he couldn’t even finish.
“#Colts QB Anthony Richardson says of his finger, ‘I’ll be good.’ Throwing on the sideline, he said, ‘I was able to spin it a little bit.’ Says the play that resulted in the hit was a ‘tricky one,’ though he has to see it and be on his ‘Ps and Qs,’” Mike Garafolo reported on X.
The Colts’ Backup Plan
Daniel Jones is available for the Colts should they need a backup quarterback for the upcoming regular season. For now, they can use him in the remaining preseason games while Richardson recovers. Other options on the roster include Jason Bean and the recently drafted Riley Leonard.
