Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers want to sign Aaron Rodgers for the upcoming season, but in their search for the franchise quarterback of the future, they could shock the NFL in the first round of the draft with a completely unexpected name: Shedeur Sanders.
The Colorado prospect has a Top 30 visit scheduled in Pittsburgh, and that has sparked rumors about the possibility of Omar Khan and Tomlin making a big move if Shedeur falls to the No. 21 spot, or possibly trading up in the draft if the Titans, Browns, and Giants pass on him.
Additionally, Shedeur fueled the debate by confirming on social media that he’s traveling to the Steel City to meet with the Super Bowl winning franchise, sending a message that hinted at what could be his next team. The player reposted the news about his visit to Pittsburgh and added the word: “Legendary.”
Who will be Steelers starting quarterback?
Aaron Rodgers would be the desired starting quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2025, although Shedeur Sanders would be the ideal name when thinking about a long-term project.
According to multiple reports, the Steelers are planning to draft a quarterback either in this draft or the next. In the 2025 class, the most notable names are Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders, but it seems highly unlikely that Deion’s son will fall all the way to the 21st pick.

However, Shedeur’s message on Instagram is very striking, especially since both he and his father have been saying for weeks that they might have some influence over the team where the star quarterback will play. The nod to the Steelers is huge, calling them “legendary” publicly.
Is Aaron Rodgers retiring?
Aaron Rodgers isn’t retiring from football just yet, but if he runs out of options, he could be forced to say goodbye. Many reports have also emphasized that the veteran is specifically waiting to see what happens in the draft before making a decision, as he wouldn’t be willing to take on a mentor role for a young star like Shedeur, who would bring weekly pressure for the starting job.
