Aaron Rodgers appears to be ready to begin his one-year stint as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers for the 2025 NFL season, after delaying his decision due to personal matters. With the black & gold franchise, he would become the starting quarterback, competing for the role with rookie Will Howard.
Howard could gain the unique experience of sharing a locker room with Rodgers during his early days as a pro. From his perspective, and with so much anticipation around Rodgers’ final answer, any talk about what’s to come inevitably centers on A-Rod.
According to NFL insider Mike Florio, Rodgers will soon join the Steelers. “I think he will be there next Tuesday, May 27, when OTAs Phase 3 begins. That’s nine practices before training camp,” Florio said. Howard is beginning to appreciate the possibility of having a high-caliber teammate.
Howard’s message to Rodgers
“I’d love to be in a room and learn from him,” Howard said about Rodgers’ arrival to the Steelers, in an interview with Up & Adams Show. The rookie quarterback in Pittsburgh could have the ideal mentor in the former Green Bay Packers veteran, potentially helping him raise his game during his first stage as a professional.

Will Howard #18 of the Ohio State Buckeyes walks the field prior to the 2025 CFP National Championship against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on January 20, 2025 in Atlanta, Georgia.
Will Howard’s path with the Steelers
Despite being selected in a late round, Howard is considered a prospect with developmental potential. The 23-year-old began his college career at Kansas State before transferring to Ohio State for his final season, where he led the Buckeyes to a 12-2 record and a College Football Playoff national title.
In addition to Howard, who was drafted in the sixth round, the Steelers also have Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson on the roster. Howard remains a question mark as a late-round rookie, while Rudolph and Thompson are not considered starting-caliber quarterbacks.
