Aaron Rodgers doesnāt want to be a distraction for the Pittsburgh Steelers during OTAs, and that could be one of the reasons why he hasnāt signed with the team. According to a report by Mike Florio, the quarterback might be trying to avoid the experience he had with the Jets when, at this same stage, a previously scheduled trip to Egypt sparked heavy criticism.
āThereās two ways he could have been a distraction. One, by not being signed with the Steelers and kind of hovering, or two, by being signed with the Steelers and staying away from the two phases of the offseason program, which he hates by the way. He does not like Phase 1 and Phase 2.ā
That would be a key factor for the Super Bowl champion quarterback to request delaying his decision until the second week of June, when the Steelersā mandatory minicamp begins.
Who will be next Steelers starting quarterback?
Aaron Rodgers will be the next starting quarterback for the Steelers, according to Florio. The entire waiting period has to do, as already mentioned, with the playerās desire to avoid being under scrutiny for missing any practice after having already signed.
āFrom his perspective, itās less of a distraction to not be on the team at all and have everyone wondering when heās going to show up than to sign and not be there and have these questions lingering. Why isnāt he there? Is he committed to be with the team? So, it makes sense.ā
