The Indianapolis Colts are in the midst of an open competition for the starting quarterback role between Anthony Richardson, praised for his physical tools and speed, and Daniel Jones, a veteran with experience who arrived this offseason to bring stability. In the meantime, the franchise has secured a contract extension for an important player.

Richardson is aiming for a consistent run in the league after being selected in 2023 and now appearing fully recovered from a shoulder injury. The young star opened training camp splitting reps with Jones. Despite an up-and-down 2024 season and injury interruptions, he remains a viable option thanks to his explosiveness.

Head coach Shane Steichen has designed training sessions with evenly split reps for both Richardson and Jones, with no immediate announcement on who the starter will be. In this context, the contribution of a gritty player could be crucial to providing defensive security and allowing the team to focus on generating offensive plays.

A key extension for the Colts

The player who reached a significant contract extension with Indianapolis is none other than offensive tackle Bernhard Raimann, who signed a four-year, $100 million deal, according to NFL insider Mike Garafolo. In a standout agreement, Raimann will receive $60 million guaranteed.

Raimann now ranks among the highest-paid players at his position and earns the label of a cornerstone piece to secure protection for the team’s starting quarterback, whether it’s Richardson or Jones. The 27-year-old tackle was a third-round pick by Indianapolis in the 2022 Draft and started 14 games during the 2024 season.
