Joe Burrow has urged the Cincinnati Bengals to keep their biggest stars in order to remain competitive. However, one of those stars has now threatened to leave the AFC North franchise over a contract dispute.

One of the Bengals’ biggest challenges in recent years has been managing the salary cap. Most recently, the front office had to address contract extensions for Ja’Marr Chase, and Tee Higgins—Burrow’s top receiving targets.

Burrow has publicly stated he’s willing to take a pay cut to help the team retain key players. Still, one of the Bengals’ biggest stars is reportedly unhappy with his current deal and may walk away if the team doesn’t meet his contract demands.

Last season, the Bengals narrowly missed the playoffs. A slow start left them relying on outside results, and despite a strong finish, it wasn’t enough to qualify.

In response to the disappointing campaign, Burrow called on the front office to retain the team’s core. The club responded by securing contract extensions for Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. But one standout on the defensive side of the ball is still waiting—and growing impatient.

Defensive end Trey Hendrickson signed a one-year extension in 2024 to play the 2025 season. However, according to Kelsey Conway, he has now made it clear he won’t play another down unless the Bengals give him a new long-term deal this offseason.

Hendrickson, 30, is currently on a one-year, $21 million contract, which includes $8 million guaranteed. He is reportedly seeking a multi-year deal—at least two more years—to commit to playing the 2025 season with the Bengals.

Since arriving, Hendrickson has been selected to the Pro Bowl every year. In 2024, he earned his first-ever All-Pro nod and was named the second-best defensive player in the league, behind only Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain II.
