Patrick Mahomes suffered one of, if not the toughest loss in his career in February, when the Kansas City Chiefs were blown out by Nick Sirianni and Jalen Hurts‘ Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX. That defeat hit the quarterback so deeply that it still comes to mind ahead of the 2025 NFL season.
Speaking to media members on Wednesday, Mahomes gave a revealing insight into his mindset after the Super Bowl collapse. The Chiefs star admitted that the loss to the Eagles continues to haunt him, though it also serves as motivation to bounce back next year.
“I’m pretty motivated anyway, but when you get some of those tiring reps, you have that bad taste in your mouth from the last time you were on the football field. It gives you that push to prove what you’re all about,” Mahomes said, via Charles Goldman of A to Z Sports.
A forgettable Super Bowl LIX for Mahomes, Chiefs
Everything that could’ve gone wrong for the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX went wrong. Mahomes and company arrived in New Orleans with their sights set on the first three-peat in NFL history. Instead, they were handed a loss that will be hard to forget.

The Eagles‘ defense was a nightmare for Mahomes, who also threw two interceptions, including a pick-six to the hands of cornerback Cooper DeJean, who celebrated his birtdhay in great fashion.
That allowed Hurts to do his job more easily, with the Eagles quarterback completing 17 of 22 passes for 221 yards with two touchdowns. Hurts got intercepted once, but it didn’t change the outcome of the game.
And when Mahomes started to get things going offensively, it was already too late. He finished with 21-of-32 completed passes for 257 tards and three touchdowns, but the Eagles still beat the Chiefs 40-22.
