NFL News: Vikings have reportedly found a more suitable quarterback than Aaron Rodgers to compete with J.J. McCarthy

The Minnesota Vikings will not sign Aaron Rodgers for the moment and will rely on J.J. McCarthy as their starting quarterback. However, according to a report by Adam Schefter, a very familiar name could return as a backup.

“Minnesota lost out on Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones. There’s not an obvious solution. What if Minnesota just waits around until after the draft and then somehow figures out a way for Kirk Cousins to get to Minnesota as the backup to J.J. McCarthy. Wouldn’t that make some sense?”

The Vikings’ roster, with names like Justin Jefferson, Aaron Jones, and Jordan Addison, positions them as Super Bowl contenders, but everything will depend on McCarthy’s development to make the leap in the NFC.

Who will be the Vikings’ starting quarterback?

J.J. McCarthy is currently the starting quarterback for the Vikings, but Minnesota needs to protect itself with a reliable backup. The young player will be in his second NFL season after his serious knee injury. For this reason, Schefter claims that Cousins would be a good option to compete on the depth chart.

“Maybe the Vikings can wait it out. The Falcons have been determined not to release Cousins, but I think the Falcons want to be able to say: ‘We got something back for this guy that we paid so much to get.’ So, maybe Minnesota says: ‘You know what, it’s worthy for us, we’ll give you a sixth-round draft pick.’ They haven’t solved the No.2 spot. J.J. McCarthy is coming off the injury and you still don’t know what you’re going to have. Let’s solidify the position with Kirk Cousins. Doesn’t that make sense?”
