Report links Aaron Rodgers' former teammate as potential backup for Dre Greenlaw if 49ers don't re-sign him

With Dre Greenlaw’s future in San Francisco still up in the air, a new report suggests a former Aaron Rodgers teammate from the Jets could enter the equation if a deal isn't reached.

Aaron Rodgers‘ future remains uncertain, but some of his former teammates are also searching for new teams. Among them is a linebacker who played alongside him with the Jets and could be an ideal backup if the San Francisco 49ers fail to re-sign Dre Greenlaw.

According to a report from Matt Maiocco, the 49ers could dive deep into free agency in search of reinforcements, and one potential target is linebacker Jamien Sherwood. Sherwood, who played with Rodgers in New York, had an impressive individual season with the Jets.

San Francisco has yet to reach an agreement with Greenlaw, and if his price tag becomes too high, Sherwood could emerge as an alternative. “That could be someone to keep an eye on if the price is less than what it would cost to get Dre Greenlaw,” Maiocco noted.

Sherwood’s last NFL salary with the Jets was $1,143,714, which makes him a really cheap superstar player. With an offer much lower than what they could offer Dre Greenlaw, it’s likely that they won’t just get a good player but also someone younger.
