NHL News: Dylan Larkin sends warning about where the Red Wings’ current streak could lead

With the regular season nearing its end, Dylan Larkin delivered a strong message—warning that the Detroit Red Wings might just have enough in the tank to chase the same goal every team is after.

Dylan Larkin didn’t hold back when speaking about what the Detroit Red Wings might be capable of as they ride a two-game win streak that could give them just enough momentum to make a late push.

In his latest comments, Larkin made it clear he believes the way the Red Wings are playing right now is enough to spark a postseason run. The confidence building among teammates might be just what they need to fight for a Wild Card spot.

“I think with how we play the last couple games against good teams, there’s a confidence… Larkin hinted that Detroit could overtake one of the current Wild Card holders—the Canadiens or Senators. With 79 points, the Red Wings sit just behind in the third spot, eyeing a potential leap.

He also pointed to their success earlier in the year as something the team is trying to recreate down the stretch: “We got nice stretches after Christmas, that’s what we’re looking for to close out the season.”

Red Wings’ pace will be key

The back-to-back wins Larkin referenced came against the Hurricanes (5–3) and Panthers (2–1). Before that brief streak, Detroit had struggled, winning just two of their last five games and slipping in the standings.

Their final stretch of regular-season games won’t be easy. The Red Wings are set to face Montreal, Florida, Tampa Bay, Dallas, New Jersey, and Toronto—with only the game against Dallas coming at home. The rest will be tough road matchups.

How long has it been since Detroit made the postseason?

The Red Wings haven’t reached the NHL postseason since the 2015–16 season, where they were eliminated in the First Round by Tampa Bay. They haven’t advanced past the opening round since 2012–13, when they skipped the First Round and reached the conference semifinals.
