“I thought about a lot of things. I talked to my family and thought that right then and there, I wasn’t really keen on moving my family there and signing a long-term contract; that’s what it all came down to,” Andersson said, explaining why he previously blocked a trade earlier this summer.

The Swedish defenseman added that he hasn’t specified any preferred destinations to Calgary. “I have not given Calgary a team. I haven’t actually spoken to Calgary since they made the request, which was a month and a half ago,” he said.

While the Canucks have a crowded defensive corps, acquiring someone of Rasmus Andersson’s caliber could significantly strengthen the blueline. With questions surrounding Quinn Hughes’ future and Vancouver in a win-now mode, a deal could improve their Stanley Cup Final chances for the first time since 2011.
