The UEFA competitions are annual tournaments organized by the European organization UEFA. They are contested by the best clubs in Europe and they are one of the world's most-watched tournaments. Each year, some of the world's most famous soccer clubs compete in either one of thw three UEFA major competitions.
At the present time, the Spanish La Liga is sitting on top of the UEFA rankings ahead of the English Premier League, the German Bundesliga, the and Italian Serie A. The results are based on the performances of the Spanish clubs over a five-year span in European contests.
Based on total European trophies, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Valencia were among the 10 most successful European soccer clubs. These three clubs, and Sevilla and Atletico Madrid make five of the most famous teams in the history of Europe.
Who are the top 10 most successful clubs in total European trophies?
Real Madrid has won 22 titles so far, followed by Milan's 17 titles, and they are the two clubs with the most European titles. Spanish teams lead all three major tournaments: Real Madrid have 13 European Cup/UEFA Champions League titles; Sevilla have six UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League titles, and Barcelona have four Cup Winners' Cup trophies.
Barca and Milan both share the greatest number of Super Cups won (five), while the Italian side and Real Madrid are tied with three Intercontinental Cups. Meanwhile, the UEFA Intertoto Cup have four clubs tied in first place by titles won, German clubs Hamburg, Schalke 04 and Stuttgart, and the Spanish side Villarreal have each managed to lift the trophy twice.
The only teams to have grabbed all of UEFA's three major competitions (European Cup/UEFA Champions League, UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League, and Cup Winners' Cup) are Juventus, Ajax, Bayern, Chelsea, and Manchester United. Interestingly, the Serie A side are the only one who have lifted a trophy in every UEFA club competition, including the Super Cup, the Intertoto Cup, and the Intercontinental Cup.
