Messi joined Barcelona in 2003 and became the team’s biggest icon and idol. He took the Blaugrana tothe top of the world and was the cornerstone of perhaps the most dominating team in soccer history.

Now, the Argentine superstar has decided to put an end to one of the most memorable tenures in the history of sports, and while some saw this coming months ago, most people still blame their controversial president for his decision.

Barcelona fans are clearly angry at Bartomeu and, truth be told, they have the right to demand his resignation following the team’s disastrous seasons. They went empty-handed and had two different managers, and his call to sign Quique Setién had already raised a lot of questions about his competence as the team’s decision-maker.

The Blaugrana is one of the biggest and most successful clubs in the world and as such, expectations are going to be incredibly high, especially if you lose the greatest player in team history. So yeah, that ‘Bartomeu Resign’ hashtag isn’t going anywhere any time soon.
