In this case, the goal differential in head-to-head games between tied teams didn’t help the Spanish side. Atletico Madrid were beaten 4-0 by PSG on Matchday 1, whereas Botafogo lost only 1-0 to the Colchonero on Monday. The French giants, who are the reigning UEFA Champions League winners by the way, also conceded only one goal in their loss to the Brazilian club. Consequently, the three-way tie ultimately saw Atletico go home.
