This Sunday afternoon, Paris Saint-Germain thoroughly outclassed Atletico Madrid in their Group B opener at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025. The final score was 4–0, with goals from Fabian Ruiz, Vitinha, Mayulu, and Kang-in Lee — the latter converting a penalty. The Spanish side also suffered a setback with Clement Lenglet’s red card.
During the first 45 minutes, PSG dominated every aspect of the game. They controlled possession for most of the match, forcing their opponents to exert a huge physical effort. The French side also created several scoring opportunities, especially with long-range shots. It was one of those shots that allowed Fabian Ruiz to open the scoring at the 18th minute.
Atletico Madrid, meanwhile, struggled to break up PSG’s attacks, and when they had the ball, they seemed powerless against their opponent’s intense pressure. Julian Alvarez with a free kick and Antoine Griezmann with a shot inside the box were the only ones to seriously trouble goalkeeper Donnarumma. But in the final play of the first half, Vitinha extended the lead with a precise right-footed strike.
In the second half, not much changed. The Spanish side hinted at a comeback through Julian Alvarez, who scored with a right-footed shot — but VAR intervened to disallow the goal due to an earlier foul by Koke. That seemed to be the final blow for Atletico, who from that point on struggled to stay competitive.
With the momentum firmly in their favor, PSG showed their quality and added two more goals. First, Mayulu — who had come on just minutes earlier — made it 3–0 with a powerful strike. Then, in stoppage time, Kang-in Lee converted from the penalty spot to seal the 4–0 win. Atletico Madrid also finished with 10 men after Clement Lenglet was sent off for dissent.
