It’s been a wild week or so for FC Barcelona and its fans. Lionel Messi, the biggesticon in the history of the club and one of the greatest players of all time, told the team that he intended to leave right away. Now, it seems like he’s going to stay put. Obviously, the millions of memes and reactions collapsed social media in the wake of his announcement.
There was a lot of speculation regarding whether Messi was going to leave Barcelona or not. He allegedly had some talks with Pep Guardiola and Manchester City and the Citizens were ready to make a move for the Argentine playmaker.
Fans had flooded Twitter to demand Josep Maria Bartomeu’s resignation as team president, following their humiliating 8-2 thrashing vs Bayern Munich, Luis Suarez’s departure, and now Messi’s decision to leave.

In fact, the controversial executive said that he was willing to leave Barcelona as long as Messi decided to stay and publically stated that he was the reason why he wanted to leave in the first place. Bartomeu wanted to sue Messi for not fulfilling his contract and it seemed like this situation was going to go on for months.
Earlier in the morning, his father and agent Jorge Messi claimed on a statement that the player could leave Barcelona this season. Then, number 10 posted a video claiming that he has no intention whatsoever of taking this matter into court, and therefore, he’s going to stay in the club that has been his home since 2000.

It seems like Barcelona fans can breathe and relax, at least for now. The team is yet to make a big name signing this season but, at least, they won’t lose their all-time leading goal-scorer and most legendary player.
