The Seattle Sounders made history in the 2020 MLS regular season as they clinched an outstanding7-1 victory over San Jose Earthquakes, earning a place in the list of the biggest wins and defeats in Major League Soccer history.

During the MLS is Back Tournament, theLos Angeles FC’s 6-2 victory over Los Angeles Galaxy was a big surprise, especially for the scoring margin between the two sides. However, thisgame is not among the biggest wins and defeats in thehistory of the league.

The Sounders hosted the Earthquakes at the CenturyLink Field in a match for the 2020 MLS regular season. The home side were the favorites to win the game before the kick-off, but the final result was a big surprise for everyone.

The team from Seattle clinched a 7-1 win over the San Jose side, putting their name in the history books of the league. Jordan Morris, Raúl Ruidíaz (2), Kelvin Leerdman, Joevin Jones (2) and Joao Paulo Mior scored for the Sounders, while Chris Wondolowski pulled one back for the Earthquakes.

The list starts with the remarkable Sporting Kansas City 7-1 victory over Montreal Impact in a 2019 MLS season game. It was played on March 30 during the regular season at the Children’s Mercy Park stadium in Kansas City.

Striker Krisztian Nemeth was the man of the match, as he scored a hat-trick for the home side. Johnny Russell added two more, and Felipe Gutiérrez and Gianluca Busio netted one each for Sporting Kansas City. Saphir Tailer pulled one back for Montreal Impact in the 89thminute.

Minnesota United FC vs FC Cincinnati (7-1)

Same result, different teams. Minnesota United earned a magnificent 7-1 win over FC Cincinnati at the Allianz Field stadium in the 2019 MLS regular season.

Defender Ike Opara scored twice, and Hassani Dotson, Ethan Finlay, Angelo Rodríguez, Mason Toye and Kevin Molino nettedone goal each for the home side. Emmanuel Ledesma scoredCincinnati’s only goal.

Kansas City Wizards vs Chicago Fire (0-7)

This amazing away victory was Chicago Fire’s biggest win in their history. The team thrashed Kansas City Wizards 7-0 at the Arrowhead stadium in a 2001 MLS season.

The visitors went ahead in the first minute with a goals scored by Jamar Beasley. Sergi Daniv and Eric Wynalda put the team 3-0 ahead before half-time. In the second half, Piotr Nowak and legend Hristo Stoichkov scored two goals each to give the Fire a remarkable 7-0 away victory.

New York City FC vs New York Red Bulls (0-7)

No New York Red Bulls fan will ever forget this Hudson River Derby, also known as the New York Derby. Playing as visitors and against a New York City FC side with world stars such as Andrea Pirlo, David Villa and Frank Lampard (entered in the second half), the Red Bulls claimed a 7-0 victory at the Yankee Stadium in a 2016 MLS season game.

Dax McCarty (2), Bradley Wright-Phillips (2), Alex Muyl, Gonzalo Verón and Gideon Baah scored for the visitors in the derby’s largest victory for one of the sides.

Atlanta United vs New England Revolution (7-0)

Atlanta United had no mercy against the New England Revolution at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in a 2017 MLS season match. The home side earned an outstanding 7-0 victory, the team’s biggest win in their history.

Josef Martínez scored the first three goals for Atlanta, two of them with penalties. Anton Walkes, Kevin Kratz, Yamil Asad and Héctor Villalbaadded one goal each for the Five Stripes.

Dallas Burn vs Los Angeles Galaxy (1-8)

And last but not least, the biggest win -or defeat- in MLS history. We have to go back to 1998, Los Angeles Galaxy visited the Dallas Burn at the Cotton Bowl stadium for a MLS game.

Wélton and Greg Vanney put the Galaxy ahead, but Damián Álvarez managed to pull one back for the home side to make the game more even. However, the Los Angeles team had other plans and earned a remarkable 8-1 victory.Harut Karapetyan scored a hat-trick,Ezra Hendrickson found the net twice and Clint Mathis added one more for the Galaxy.
