Venezuela defeated Ecuador 2-1 at the Estadio Olímpico for Matchday 5 of the Conmebol World Cup Qualifiers 2022. First, Enner Valencia put Ecuador ahead from the penalty spot in the first half, but Venezuela was able to come from behind with goals by Darwin Machis and Eduard Bello.

The first half was tight, without many opportunities for both sides. However, Ecuador opened the scoring after the referee saw a foul in the area from Jose Martinez. Valencia didn’t hesitate in front of Wuilker Fariñez, who couldn’t stop the shot.

But the home side didn’t give up and in the aggregate time of the first half, Darwin Machis found a crossing pass in the area and sent the ball to the net to equalize the scoring.
