Caitlin Clark has already shown more than enough of what she can bring to the WNBA with her talent, and she will undoubtedly elevate the Indiana Fever in the short term to achieve great things. However, Sue Bird pointed out a small detail that could help the former Iowa star even more.

The four-time champion with the Seattle Storm spoke about Clark’s natural talent, but noted that it could be even more impactful if her teammates created more shooting opportunities for her throughout the games.

“I got to watch Caitlin play in person in Seattle and one thing I noticed was it would be really beneficial for her if she had players around her who could create shots for her,” Bird said on her podcast, Bird’s Eye View.

“She has to create a lot of her own shots, but she’s also creating for her teammates. And there are times where if she could just get some open looks off other people’s play it could be really beneficial to her. And that’s where Arie McDonald might have some impact.“

While her return is day-to-day, the team is prioritizing her long-term health. The caution underscores their careful approach with their franchise player, even as critical games loom.

What can be expected from the Fever this season?

The Indiana Fever have navigated a rollercoaster 2025 season, currently holding an 8-8 record, placing them third in the Eastern Conference behind the New York Liberty and Atlanta Dream. While they’ve shown flashes of brilliance, including a significant win over New York, inconsistency and key injuries have presented ongoing challenges, compounded by off-court noise from personnel changes and fan incidents.

At the heart of the team’s dynamic is Caitlin Clark, who has cemented her role as the primary playmaker and scorer in her second WNBA season. Despite battling a left quad strain (missing five games) and now a left groin injury, her impact is undeniable when on the court. Averaging 18.2 points, 8.9 assists, and 5.0 rebounds, and named an All-Star captain, Clark’s shooting and court vision are pivotal to the Fever’s offense, making her health and the team’s consistency crucial for their postseason aspirations.
