The Green Bay Packers are facing one of the most critical moments in their history. According to multiple reports, reigning NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers is livid at the team and doesn’t want to come back next season.
Rodgers had had enough of the front office and their unwillingness to give him more weapons, and using a first-round pick on a quarterback last year may have pushed him over the edge. That, plus the decision tokick a field goal with the NFC Championship Game on the line prompted Rodgers’ decision.
Multiple teams like the Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders were tied to Rodgers over the past couple of weeks but there’s no traction just yet. Other sources claim that Aaron wants the team to fire their GM or else he’s walking away.
Brett Favre Says Aaron Rodgers Isn’t Coming Back
To make things even worst for Packers fans, former team legend Brett Favre recently addressed Rodgers’ situation in an interview with ESPN Wisconsin, stating that he’s just not going to let this thing go:
“I think I know Aaron fairly well,” Favre started. “and honestly I just don’t see him coming back and just saying, ‘All right, let’s just bury the hatchet, whatever caused the rift, and I’m just going to come back and play because I love the guys, I love the Green Bay fans’ — I assume he does — but his rift isn’t with the fans or the players. It’s with the front office. Will he just swallow his pride and come in? Maybe. But I don’t see that happening.”
Favre Says Rodgers Would Rather Sit Out If He’s Not Traded
Favre added thatknowing Rodgers and his character, he would much rather sit out next year if he’s not traded. In fact, some people even claimed that he could contemplate retirement if he’s not moved:
“If there’s not a trade, my gut tells me that he’d rather sit out than play. That’s just my gut. There’s no reason for me to say that other than that’s what my gut’s telling me, and I think you guys know Aaron fairly well enough to sort of feel the same way,” Favre concluded.
It doesn’t seem like this drama is going to go away any time soon. What’s clear is that the Packers have failed him and now risk losing one of the greatest gunslingers to ever set foot on a gridiron.
