The Indianapolis Colts are in the middle of a quarterback battle between Anthony Richardson and newly-arrived Daniel Jones. Now, it seems like the team should be closing in on who will be the starting signal-caller, and a new report has shed new light into the matter.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that the Colts made their first ‘unofficial‘ depth chart public. All eyes went straight to the quarterback department and well… not even the team knows what’s going on. Per Schefter’s report, the team listed their QB1 slot like this: “Daniel Jones OR Anthony Richardson Sr.”

There are other NFL franchises having QB battles. Teams like Cleveland or New Orleans might be getting closer to picking their starting quarterback, but the Colts look absolutely torn.

Jones was getting the nod, is it still the case?

Earlier reports on the quarterback battle was that Daniel Jones was getting the better of Anthony Richardson. This became more relevant as Richardson missed part of spring camp due to a shoulder injury.

Daniel Jones, former quarterback of the New York Giants

Somehow, someway, it seems like Richardson has regained traction and Jones wasn’t able to secure the starting quarterback spot. This is more an indictment on Jones, rather than Richardson, since early reports stated Jones was way ahead, meaning more likely than not that his regression has been drastic.

Shane Steichen’s seat might be getting warmer

This will be Steichen’s third year as the Colts head coach. In other words, he is entering the key year for the franchise to either marry with his identity, or look elsewhere for something new.

Steichen has a 17-17 record in Indy as he’s traded 9-8 and 8-9 seasons. Pretty much the same but with one-game regression. However, the trend should go upwards and hence, this year Steichen is trying to reassure the front office he is the man for the job. However, he won’t have a stellar quarterback to help him.
