There’s no doubt that Tua Tagovailoa’s talent is among the most impactful in the NFL. However, for him to perform at his best, he needs solid protection from his teammates. The Miami Dolphins clearly understood this, and in recent hours, they’ve brought in a former teammate of Russell Wilson to help fulfill that need.
This Sunday, fans in South Florida took notice of a new addition to Mike McDaniel’s squad ahead of the upcoming season. Germain Ifedi, a veteran offensive tackle in the league, joins the Dolphins after a stint with the Cleveland Browns.
The news was confirmed by NFL insider Ian Rapoport, who announced the move through his official X account (formerly Twitter), highlighting this intriguing addition by a team aiming to become a serious contender in the AFC East.
“The #Dolphins signed veteran OL Germain Ifedi for added depth, while Austin Jackson deals with an injury. Jackson should be ready to start the season, coach Mike McDaniel told reporters,” the insider reported.
Ifedi entered the league out of Texas A&M after being selected by the Seattle Seahawks with the 31st overall pick in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He remained in Seattle until 2019, serving as one of Russell Wilson’s primary protectors during that span.
Protecting Tua
It’s clear that if Tua Tagovailoa stays healthy and avoids concussions, the Dolphins will hold a key advantage over their rivals throughout the season. Keeping him protected from these setbacks is an absolute must for this team — which is exactly why the arrival of Ifedi is so important.
Both Austin Jackson and Patrick Paul are expected to take on more prominent roles this season, especially following the retirement of veteran Terron Armstead. With the arrival of Germain Ifedi, the hope is that the quarterback will be well protected starting in Week 1 for Miami.
Take control of the AFC East
For years, the AFC East was dominated by the Patriots during the Brady era. After the legendary quarterback’s retirement, the Bills took advantage of the shift, and the division has remained in Orchard Park ever since. Now, Mike McDaniel and his team are dreaming of joining the list of true contenders, hoping to usher in a new era — led by Tua and company.
