Aaron Rodgers is not an option for the New Orleans Saints, according to a report by Tom Pelissero. Although the quarterback room took a major hit with the retirement of Derek Carr, all signs point to his next team being the Pittsburgh Steelers.
“I don’t get the sense that Aaron Rodgers is going to end up in New Orleans. There is perhaps, you could certainly argue, a clearer path for Aaron Rodgers to get into the playoffs in the NFC and particularly in the NFC South, but, that’s about the only argument for going to New Orleans. I anticipate Aaron Rodgers is going to be the Steelers quarterback, but, until he actually signs somewhere and makes a commitment, he’s the enigma. Never say never.”
Rodgers is trying to win a second Super Bowl in his career, and when comparing rosters, the Steelers seem like a stronger option than the Saints. For that reason, Pelissero notes that it’s very unlikely the quarterback will play for Kellen Moore.
Is Aaron Rodgers retiring?
Aaron Rodgers retiring is still an option given the uncertainty surrounding the quarterback. If the Steelers’ plan doesn’t convince him or the problems in his inner circle are too significant, saying goodbye to football might become a priority.
However, as Pelissero and other insiders have said, all signs point to Pittsburgh being the chosen destination, and the timing of his signing has to do with avoiding certain preparation stages like mandatory minicamp.
