Aaron Rodgers had a very interesting interview with Kyle Brandt during training camp in Latrobe. The quarterback praised Mike Tomlin and pointed out that his conversations with the head coach were key to signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
“It was honestly more about what he wasn’t saying. At no point during the conversations, which were weekly at least, did I ever feel like I was talking to a coach who needed something from me. I need you to give me this or give me that. Give me an answer. It was always like you’re talking to an old friend. I just really appreciated that. I respected how he talked to me. Getting to know him and him asking me. Remembering important things about my life too. It really made an impression on me.”
Although most experts don’t believe the Steelers are Super Bowl contenders, Tomlin was convinced from the early days of free agency that Rodgers was the most important piece to compete for a championship. Now, it’s time to silence the doubters on the field.
Why did Aaron Rodgers sign with Steelers?
Mike Tomlin was probably the biggest reason why Aaron Rodgers signed with the Steelers. The quarterback has said it publicly several times since joining Pittsburgh, and in this interview with Brandt, he confirmed that every day he’s more impressed by the head coach’s personality and work ethic.
“I never once felt like I was talking to a coach who might have been talking to me, you know, small talk, but who was really wanting to be like: ‘Hey, when you’re coming in? When you’re coming in?’ I just appreciated that. Hearing him in the team’s meetings has been really cool. He talks to the team everyday and it’s the real stuff. I’m just really enjoying his personality on the field.”
