Ben Roethlisberger doesn’t believe the Pittsburgh Steelers should draft a quarterback in the first round. Understanding that Aaron Rodgers would be a bridge player at the position, the black and gold legend said on his podcast Footbahlin that Mike Tomlin and Omar Khan should prioritize the trenches.

“I don’t think they should go quarterback. I would either go offensive line or defensive line. Maybe defensive line, because you got rid of Ogunjobi and you have Cam (Heyward), who obviously played great last year, but how many years does he have left. You’ve got to add depth. If you can find Cam’s ten-year replacement in the first round, that’s what you have to do.”

The Steelers haven’t won the Super Bowl in over 16 years, and with no second-round pick due to the trade for DK Metcalf, Khan can’t afford to miss on his first selection with the 21st pick.

Who will the Steelers select in the draft?

Although many rumors suggest that the Steelers would select Jaxson Dart or Shedeur Sanders if the Colorado prospect falls to No. 21, the reality is that the team’s biggest needs are on the defensive line, the offensive line, and possibly at wide receiver, assuming they don’t plan to extend George Pickens’ contract.

Moreover, according to many experts, the 2025 class isn’t very deep at the quarterback position, and the Steelers could end up making the same mistake they did with Kenny Pickett out of desperation. In this scenario, the third round seems like a more logical option to draft a QB, if names like Jalen Milroe or Will Howard are still available.
