NFL News: Super Bowl champion head coach sends clear message about Aaron Rodgers, expressing concern for Steelers

A legendary Super Bowl-winning coach has weighed in on Aaron Rodgers' free agency, questioning the Steelers' approach and the power they've given the veteran quarterback. With Pittsburgh's future hanging in the balance, his message sends a strong warning about the risks of waiting on Rodgers.

Tony Dungy, a man who knows the Pittsburgh Steelers and their culture perfectly, does not agree with how Aaron Rodgers has behaved. During Football Night in America, the former head coach severely criticized the quarterback’s attitude in these negotiations with Mike Tomlin’s team.

“That guy’s got to be on board. Aaron Rodgers should be saying, if he wants to do this: ‘Yeah, I can take you to the Super Bowl. Let’s go. I love these veteran guys. Let’s get there and get rolling. Let me get there and get started’. Not: ‘Hey, I’ll get back to you in a little while and we’ll see what happens’. No. I don’t want that from the guy who I think is going to be the hero for me.”

Rodgers is taking all the time possible to make the biggest decision of his career. Undoubtedly, although money is important, the reality is that the veteran wants the team with the best chances to win the Super Bowl.

Is Aaron Rodgers a free agent now?

Yes. Aaron Rodgers is a free agent, so he can wait without rushing, even until days before the start of the season, to make a decision. In this scenario, there are only two options: the Steelers now or the Vikings realizing in August that J.J. McCarthy isn’t ready.

Therefore, considering the way Rodgers has all the leverage over the Steelers, Dungy doesn’t understand how such an important organization has given so much power to a single player to dictate the course of the next few months.

“I’m not sure what his holdup is. I’m not sure what the Steelers are doing either. I think they need a long-term answer. They need to find that guy who’s going to be their quarterback for the next ten years.”
