If Aaron Rodgers believes the Minnesota Vikings are going to make him a last-minute call, that won’t happen according to a report from Jeremy Fowler. The insider reveals that, just weeks before the start of training camp, head coach Kevin O’Connell has his quarterback in J.J. McCarthy.
“There’s some teams I’ve talked to that are still kind of wondering if he is just waiting out the Vikings. You know, because the Vikings would be an ideal scenario. One of the best play callers in the league in Kevin O’Connell. Nine dome games. You’re guaranteed nine dome games per year. There’s some element of that, but, checking with the Vikings, I still don’t expect that. They’re moving forward with J.J. McCarthy. So, he really has no other options other than Pittsburgh or retire right now.”
There’s no doubt the Vikings would give Rodgers the best chance to win the Super Bowl with an extraordinary roster, but Minnesota is not interested. However, as happened with the Saints, an injury or a drop in performance by McCarthy could open that door.
What team will Aaron Rodgers play for next season?
Aaron Rodgers would play for the Pittsburgh Steelers next season, but the quarterback has not made an official announcement yet. According to Fowler, the black and gold team remains confident that it will happen.
“I kind of get the same lines from people in Pittsburgh, which is, we remain optimistic, we remain in contact with Aaron Rodgers. No new update yet. They are essentially still waiting on him. They’re just going to kind of roll with Mason Rudolph until then.”
