Edin Dzeko, 35, has had a very respectable career, the Bosnian target man has played for clubs such as Wolfsburg, Manchester City, and since 2015 has been with Italian side Roma. Now at the tail end of that career it looks like Dzeko is preparing for a new adventure state side in MLS.
According to reports from Dzeko’s native Bosnia, he is set to leave Roma and move to the United States and suit up for the five-time MLS champions, Los Angeles Galaxy. The report indicates that Dzeko’s wife has even found a school for their daughter in the Los Angeles area.
The MLS season has already begun, and the Galaxy have started their season with a bang, sitting second in the west after 6 matches. MLS teams are known for taking a chance on established players from Europe past their prime, but today, are paying them at a very reduced wage. Here are the supposed details of Edin Dzeko’s move to the Los Angeles Galaxy.
Edin Dzeko to MLS
According to the Bosnian report, Dzeko’s wife has already lived in Los Angeles, it is where the couple met while Dzeko was at Manchester City. Bosnian agent Admir Husaric, who does not represent the striker, stated in an interview that “I’ve heard he will join LA Galaxy, but I can’t reveal the details because the deal is not done yet.”
Despite his advanced age, Dzeko is a contributor, he scored 7 goals in 24 games this season for Roma and has 85 in 196 games in total. The striker’s contract does not expire until June 2022, but if he were to force a deal the Italian club would have no issue letting him go on a free.
New Roma boss, José Mourinho, is said to be keen on keeping the striker, as he sees him as a very good squad player. Dzeko’s strike ratio is very good, he has 304 career goals in 609 games.
As far as the Los Angeles Galaxy is concerned, the team is off to a flying start, and at forward the club has Javier Hernández, who has scored 7 goals after 5 games this season. Dzeko would be a welcome addition given the Galaxy are very weak at the forward position with no real replacement for Hernández if he were to be injured.
The details of the deal were not revealed, nor the length of the contract if Dzeko would move to the United States. Nonetheless the idea is not farfetched.
