The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Gameswill take place from July 23 to August 8, 2021, in Tokyo, Japan. This edition of the Summer Olympic Games will feature 33 sports and 339 medal events held at 42 venues across Japan.
The action starts on Wednesday,July 21, with group matches in the women’s football/soccer and softball competitions. The opening ceremony for the 33rd Summer Games takes place at the Olympic Stadium on Friday, 23 July and the first medals will be won the next day.

How many sports are in the Tokyo Olympics?
On 9 June 2017, the IOC Executive Board adopted an official program for the 2020 Summer Olympics. IOC President Thomas Bach said the objective of the Tokyo Summer Olympiad was to make the Tokyo Summer Olympic Games more ‘young and urban’ and to boost the number of women involved.
The games will have 339 events, covering a total of 50 categories, in 33 sports. Almost 15 new events are also planned in current sports in addition to the cinq new sports to be launched in Tokyo, including 3×3 basketball, freestyle BMX, madison cycling, and new mixed events in numerous sports.
