Rory McIlroy wasn’t going to let two holes in the first round derail his dream of winning the 2025 Masters. Despite two double bogeys on the 15th and 17th at Augusta on Thursday, the Northern Ireland star sent a clear message about his chances of putting on the green jacket after an impressive bounce-back on Friday with a 66.

“I was so frustrated last night because I played so well. I’m proud of myself with how I responded after the finish last night. I had to remind myself that I played really good golf yesterday. I wasn’t going to let two bad holes dictate the narrative for the rest of the week. Once I left the property last night, I just sort of tried to leave what had happened here.”

It’s important to remember that Rory is still in pursuit of the Career Grand Slam, aiming to join an exclusive group of players that includes Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Gary Player, Ben Hogan, and Gene Sarazen.

“Championship golf can be volatile. This course takes it out of you physically and mentally. I just tried to stay really patient and I feel like the patience got rewarded.
