Tiger Woods is not playing the 2025 Masters Tournament due to a serious Achilles injury. The golf legend confirmed the information on March 11 with a surprising message on social media.
āAs I began to ramp up my own training and practice at home, I felt a sharp pain in my left Achilles, which was deemed to be ruptured. Dr. Charlton Stucken of Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida performed a minimally-invasive Achilles tendon repair for a ruptured tendon. I am back home now and plan to focus on my recovery and rehab, thank you for all the support.ā
Undoubtedly, thousands of fans were hoping to see Tiger at Augusta National competing alongside other stars like Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka, Jon Rahm, Xander Schauffele, or Phil Mickelson. However, Woods will have to wait to pursue his sixth green jacket, which would tie the record held by Jack Nicklaus.
Is Tiger Woods retiring?
No. Although Tiger Woods is recovering from that injury, the star has not given any indication that he is considering retiring from golf. What is certain is that there is no set date for his possible return yet.
Woods is 49 years old, and injuries have pushed him to the limit with various knee and back surgeries. Although he participated in TGL this year, his last official appearance was at The Open in July of 2024.
