There’s plenty of intrigue surrounding the MLB offseason, with several high-profile players still available for trade. One of the biggest names in the rumor mill is St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado. According to reports, the Los Angeles Dodgers have been linked to the eight-time All-Star, and another team could also be in the mix.

While Arenado’s name has surfaced in various trade discussions, a recent report suggests he remains a target for the Dodgers. Despite already making significant roster additions, Los Angeles continues to be in the market for impact players.

ESPN’s Buster Olney, speaking with Dodgers Nation, indicated that Arenado could still be on the Dodgers’ radar, as the team has the financial flexibility to make a deal happen. “He has been on a platter for teams to make a trade for months,” Olney said. “And I asked about the Dodgers about six weeks ago.”

Olney added: “To protect the source, I have to phrase it this way: I was told, ‘If the Dodgers wanted him, they would have gotten him.’” While the possibility remains uncertain, a move for Arenado would further solidify an already formidable Dodgers roster.

As Olney discussed the Dodgers’ interest in Cardinals star, he also provided insight into the third baseman’s availability. Despite being under contract through 2027, Arenado is a player St. Louis is willing to listen to offers for as the team looks to acquire young talent for the future.

“It’s not like it’s been a secret that he’s been available, and to this point, it doesn’t look like he’s at the top of their list in terms of an interesting player,” Olney said regarding Arenado’s current status on the market.

With his experience and consistent production, several teams are closely monitoring the situation to see if any major moves materialize. As another NL contender reportedly shows interest, Arenado remains open to potential offers that could reshape his future in the MLB.

Mets reportedly interested in Arenado

Speculation about Arenado’s future continues, and the New York Mets—who faced the Dodgers in the NLCS last year—are reportedly among the teams eyeing the veteran third baseman. With Pete Alonso rejecting the Mets’ initial contract offer, owner Steve Cohen could turn his attention to Arenado as a potential upgrade.

Chinmay Sathe of Essentially Sports weighed in on the possibility, writing: “If the New York Mets were to pull the trigger on this deal, it could have a major impact on their roster, providing both immediate and long-term benefits. However, this deal might prove to be a double-edged sword for the Mets in economic terms.”
