Aaron Boone has watched his New York Yankees turn in a strong season so far, despite dealing with a string of injuries — one of the most notable being Jazz Chisholm Jr., who is still working his way back but could be on the verge of returning.
“Jazz Chisholm Jr. is scheduled to go through a full workout tomorrow and then could go out on a rehab assignment later in the week,” Boone said, according to Greg Joyce on X.
That rehab assignment would likely take place in the minors, where Chisholm Jr. could test his progress in live-game situations before rejoining the Yankees at the major league level. More detailed updates on his performance are expected by the weekend.
What Have the Yankees Missed Without Chisholm Jr.?
Chisholm Jr. was sidelined with an oblique injury in late April, a blow to a Yankees lineup that had been counting on his power. While he was batting just .181 at the time of the injury, he had already slugged 7 home runs in 105 at-bats — putting him on pace to surpass the 11 he hit in his first year with the club.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. #13 of the New York Yankees is held back by manager Aaron Boone #17 after an ejection by umpire John Bacon #70 in the seventh inning against the Tampa Bay Rays at George M. Steinbrenner Field on April 17, 2025 in Tampa, Florida.
Is Chisholm Jr.’s Spot in the Lineup in Jeopardy?
Not exactly. Boone hasn’t made any public suggestions that Chisholm Jr.’s role is in question. In his absence, DJ LeMahieu has filled in at second base, but he’s struggled at the plate — hitting just .233 in 30 at-bats across 33 games, with only 7 hits, one home run, and 3 RBI.

The real test will come when Chisholm Jr. returns: can he pick up where he left off — or better? The 27-year-old was seen taking part in infield work on May 16 and appeared to be in solid form during recovery.
