The trade that shook the NBA this year was undoubtedly the one involving Anthony Davis and Luka Doncic. So far, the Los Angeles Lakers have been the biggest beneficiaries of this deal, considering what the Slovenian guard has brought to the team. For the Dallas Mavericks, things haven’t gone as well, but a player from the team shared an honest opinion on the matter.
“You could feel how you feel about the trade. Win, lose, better for now, better for the future, whatever it may be,” Spencer Dinwiddie acknowledged during an interview on the Club 520 Podcast. “The only thing that sucks is that they’re acting like AD is a bum, that’s the crazy part.”
Dinwiddie then issued a strong warning. “We’ve got to stop acting like AD isn’t AD, bro. We got to stop,” said the 31-year-old guard. “They’re acting like AD ain’t probably top-five power forwards of all time… Top 75.”
On the comparison between the talents of Doncic and Davis, Spencer was honest: “They are both my friends, and L to me is probably the best offensive player in the NBA right now. But AD might be the best two-way player. Probably him and Giannis (Antetokounmpo). So it’s a tough position to be in, like I said.”

The Mavericks with Anthony Davis
In the same conversation, Spencer Dinwiddie made it clear that he has high expectations for what Anthony Davis can bring to the Mavericks, provided he stays healthy. He recalled the brief moments when the forward played during his debut against Houston in February.

“If you look at what he was able to do in conjunction with Gaff (Daniel Gafford) in the Rockets game… In the first half, I think the Rockets scored 38 points, and they were like second in the West,” explained the guard. “That trio with PJ (Washington), AD, and Gaff, there was nowhere to go. That was exciting to see.”
Dinwiddie’s reaction to Doncic’s departure from Dallas
Despite highlighting the talent and impact Anthony Davis has, and what he could bring to Dallas, Dinwiddie was candid about what he felt when he found out about the trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. “I don’t think anybody would disagree with this. Going into the season, you would have thought he was untouchable,” he said, before listing other players with that same status: “Wemby (Victor Wembanyama), Ant Edwards, and probably (Jayson) Tatum, those types of guys.”
Spencer then explained how he found out about the deal. “It was just crazy because, you know, we had an early game against Cleveland the next day, so I went to sleep early,” he began. “When I woke up, I knew there was a problem, or something went on, because I had other NBA players’ missed calls. Like Zach LaVine, DLo (D’Angelo Russell)… I was just shocked, I don’t think there’s any other way to put it.”
