A few weeks ago, the Dallas Mavericks found themselves in a challenging situation. With multiple key players sidelined due to injuries, they faced another major blow when Kyrie Irving suffered a torn ACL in his left knee, effectively ending his season. However, things are slowly stabilizing for the team.
During Monday’s 120-101 victory over the Brooklyn Nets, the Mavericks got a boost as Anthony Davis returned to action after nearly two months out with his own injury.
Adding to the positive developments, journalist Shams Charania reported that Irving’s surgery was successful. “Dallas Mavericks All-Star Kyrie Irving underwent successful surgery to repair his torn left ACL on Wednesday at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, sources told ESPN,” Charania wrote.
Charania further revealed that Irving’s injury was isolated to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee, with no damage to other ligaments or the meniscus.

“The surgery was performed by Dr. Riley J. Williams, chief of sports medicine at HSS, per sources. Irving had an ACL tear only in his left knee—with no damage to any other ligament or the meniscus,” he added.

Irving’s absence has been the toughest setback for the Mavericks this season. The former NBA champion with the Cavaliers had been logging the most minutes on the team, averaging 39.3 per game, along with 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.6 assists this season.
Anthony Davis on Irving’s injury
After rejoining the team nearly two months post-debut, Anthony Davis spoke about how devastating it was to see Irving suffer a season-ending injury. “It was devastating,” Davis told ESPN. “Kyrie is a phenomenal basketball player. But even more phenomenal human”.
“Any time anyone goes through something like that, an injury like that, it always sucks,” he continued. “Obviously, the initial injury, the initial moment, you want to give him space. Then he came back to the locker room. Got everything out of his system. Now he’s excited about the rehab process”.
“He’s in a good headspace now … to see him in a great headspace, it’s good for our team. Good for me,” Davis added. “And, I’m pretty sure, good for him. Obviously, it sucks. But we have to hold the fort down for this season, and into next season, until he’s ready to come back”.
