Anthony Edwards has been the driving force behind the Minnesota Timberwolves’ historic NBA campaign. They finished sixth in the Western Conference standings and knocked out the Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors in the playoffs, advancing to the Western Conference Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder. However, the guard has also found himself at the center of controversies that have cost him dearly.
The latest incident came after Game 1 against OKC, a game Minnesota lost 114–88 at Paycom Center. Following the defeat, the young star addressed the media and said: “I definitely need to shoot more; I only took 13 (expletive) shots.”
That comment came at a high cost for Anthony, as the NBA fined him $50,000 for using profane language during a media interview. The punishment may have had an immediate effect, as the shooting guard opted not to speak to the media after Game 2—an action that, ironically, could also lead to a fine.
That recent penalty added to a growing list of infractions the Timberwolves star has accumulated during the 2024–25 season. Some fines stemmed from in-game conduct, including technical fouls and ejections. Others, like this week’s press conference incident, were tied to off-court behavior and unsportsmanlike gestures.

Anthony Edwards is leading the Timberwolves in points per game during the NBA Playoffs.
According to Spotrac, the guard had already been fined 24 times this season before the latest OKC episode. Of those, 19 were for technical fouls and ejections, with penalties ranging from $2,000 to $5,000. However, when he picked up his 16th technical foul in February, he was hit with a hefty $249,393 fine.

That figure doesn’t include additional disciplinary actions for unacceptable conduct. In November 2024, the Ant-Man was fined $35,000 for making obscene gestures during a game against the Sacramento Kings. In December, he publicly criticized officials and used inappropriate, profane language during a game against the Warriors, resulting in another $75,000 fine.
In 2025, Edwards was fined $50,000 for a series of obscene gestures toward an official during a game against the Memphis Grizzlies. He was hit with another $50,000 penalty in April for using inappropriate language and making obscene gestures toward a fan during the playoff series against the Lakers.
In total, Edwards has racked up an eye-popping $514,393 in fines this season. While that figure may seem modest compared to his $42.1 million annual salary, it highlights a clear issue the shooting guard will need to address moving forward if he wants to solidify his place as one of the NBA’s elite stars.
