Ja Morant made his return to the court on Saturday night as the Memphis Grizzlies faced off against the Los Angeles Lakers. Despite his strong performance, the Grizzlies couldn’t overcome the Lakers’ dominant trio of LeBron James, Luka Doncic, and Austin Reaves, falling 134-127. Morant was back in action after missing six consecutive NBA games due to injury.

Following the game, Morant opened up about the challenges of being sidelined. Speaking to Damichael Cole of The Commercial Appeal, he acknowledged how difficult the process had been but emphasized the importance of prioritizing his long-term health.

Obviously, being out for a stretch is tough for me. I always want to be out there on the floor,” Morant said. “Sometimes, you just have to be smart about it. I don’t want things lingering when it’s time to lock in for good.” Despite the loss, Morant put up an impressive stat line, nearly recording a triple-double with 22 points, eight rebounds, and 10 assists.

One of the major storylines in Memphis has been the dismissal of head coach Taylor Jenkins. “Morant has complained about the new scheme, which takes the ball out of his hands and removes the screens he likes to use as a ball handler to make plays,” the report stated. “One league source who has seen Morant work out with the Grizzlies recently said, ‘Some days he looks like he’s ready to play, and some days he looks like he doesn’t want to be there because he hates the offense.’”
