Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch shares honest take on coaching Anthony Edwards

The Minnesota Timberwolves have built a strong, competitive team. They did it by surrounding the project with young talent. Head coach Chris Finch did not see their youth as a problem. Instead, he used it as motivation to push his players harder. One of them is Anthony Edwards. At just 23 years old, he already stands out as the cornerstone of the franchise. His impressive form caught attention. As a result, Finch confessed he is tougher on Edwards during training.

“I don’t want (people) to think that every film session is an ‘MF’-type of thing…It’s not that. That’s not how we do it. It’s not old-school, like we’re screaming at guys all the time. But we aren’t afraid to put our best guys up on the film more often than others, because they play all the minutes, (and) they take all the shots. They’re involved in all the actions, so they should have more accountability that goes with that,” stated Chris Finch as reported by Sam Amick of The Athletic.

Anthony Edwards has slowly now taken on a leadership role within the team. The head coach Chris Finch mentioned that the rookies do not face the same tough training that Edwards experienced. Now, it is him who mentors and pushes the younger players.

Also, his influence is clear on the court as well. He leads the team in scoring, averaging 27.6 points per game this season. Moreover, he has been the key player in the postseason. He stepped up in big matchups against top franchises like the Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors.

The Timberwolves are in position to take full control of their series against the Warriors. With the Game 3 victory, they now hold the upper hand and have a chance to close things out without needing a Game 6 or 7. Anthony Edwards led the way with 36 points, posting the best stat line of the night. If Minnesota can continue to score efficiently, they will be well-positioned to capitalize on Stephen Curry’s absence and wrap up the series in just two more games.
