When the NFL announced that they’d start the 2020 season in a somewhat normal fashion, people wondered how long would it take before a Covid-19 outbreak put the schedule in jeopardy. Three weeks later, Pittsburgh Steelers and Tennessee Titansdon’t know for a fact when they’ll be able to play their Week 4 game.
Multiple Titans players and coaches tested positive for Covid-19 lately and even though it seems like no one from the Minnesota Vikings organization – which played with the Titans in Week 3 – were infected, the league is still wary about their upcoming matchup.
That’s why the game between Steelers and Titans set to take place at Nissan Stadium and originally scheduled for this Sunday afternoon has been postponed without any further updates. However, coach Mike Tomlin is optimistic about playing it rather sooner than later.
Steelers Coach Mike Tomlin Says They Could Play Vs. Titans On Monday
“Right now there’s a strong possibility that it’s Monday,” coach Tomlin told the media when asked about whether the game would be played on Monday, Tuesday, or would be rescheduled for the team’s Bye week.
The Major League Baseball season had to go through multiple reschedules and double-headers as various teams went through Covid-19 outbreaks. Then again, they managed to finish the regular season.
The NFL is optimistic about their chances of finishing the season without any kind of issues. In fact, some teams will start hosting fans in the upcoming weeks, even if it is at a limited capacity.
Rescheduling football games is almost impossible at this time given the nature of the sport and the calendar. Players and teams must be extremely careful and follow every single safety and health protocol if they don’t want the season to come to a sudden halt as it happened with the NBA. Hopefully, that won’t be the case here.
