NFL News: Aaron Rodgers is reportedly left with only one real option to continue his career

As Aaron Rodgers faces a critical crossroads in his illustrious career, reports suggest he's down to just one viable option to continue playing in the NFL.

Aaron Rodgers seems to have only one option to continue his NFL career: the Pittsburgh Steelers. According to a report from Tom Pelissero, although the quarterback desires it, Minnesota is not a realistic alternative.

“I can tell you that Aaron has kept up a dialogue with various members of the organization, coaches and other players. There’s been communication like this is really something that he’s gonna do. And at this point, right now, sitting here in late March, the Pittsburgh Steelers are the only opportunity that Aaron has. Aaron had a high degree of interest in going to Minnesota. Based upon what I know, the Vikings were always a long shot because they have a high degree of belief that J.J. McCarthy is going to be the guy. I’m not anticipating that changing.”

The uncertainty surrounding Rodgers isn’t that difficult to explain. The star knows that the Steelers have a competitive roster, but if he truly wants to join a Super Bowl contender, he can’t rule out the Vikings.

What is Aaron Rodgers’ future?

Aaron Rodgers’ future has the Pittsburgh Steelers as the only team with an offer on the table and the Vikings as a personal wish for the player. This was explained by Pelissero in his interview with Jim Rome.

“Aaron’s choices are go to the Steelers, quite down everything and get your future teammates to stop doing podcasts and interviews. Just answer the question and show that you’re all-in. Or he can sit back and say: ‘I’m not ready to make a decision right now.’ Maybe see whether it’s Minnesota or something else. The only other places right now that don’t have clear starting quarterback plans are really Cleveland, and I don’t see Aaron Rodgers going to Cleveland, and it’s Tennessee. I don’t see Rodgers going to Tennessee. This is Pittsburgh or wait for Aaron Rodgers. I don’t know that it would be retirement. Pittsburgh seems to be on the driver’s seat.”

Will Aaron Rodgers sign a contract with Steelers?

If Aaron Rodgers signs with the Steelers, the offer is a one-year contract, as Mike Tomlin and Omar Khan are not willing to make a multi-year deal. In fact, Rodgers would be a bridge quarterback while they search for the ideal player in the 2025 or 2026 draft.

“Aaron basically invited himself on a visit late last week. He was in the building for several hours. He watched tape with the coaches. I mean this deal has been in place, contract-wise, for weeks. They discussed parameters. This is not gonna be a financial issue at all for Aaron Rodgers. If it gets done, it’s gonna be a one year deal and he’s gonna be in there and taking a shot at age 41 to show that he can muster one more miraculous run, not unlike Brett Favre did back in ’09 when he ended up in Minnesota. This was a get to know you type of meeting. Everything there sounds positive.”
