NFL News: Aaron Rodgers may already know contract length and salary with Mike Tomlin’s Steelers amid wait on Vikings

While the Minnesota Vikings remain a possibility, Aaron Rodgers may already know what Mike Tomlin's Pittsburgh Steelers can offer him for the 2025 NFL season.

Aaron Rodgers reportedly knows that the Minnesota Vikings will stick to J.J. McCarthy, but for some reason, the four-time NFL MVP continues to put Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers on hold.

The 41-year-old, however, may already know what kind of contract to expect in Pittsburgh. According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Rodgers and the Steelers have already agreed to the parameters of a potential deal, but A-Rod has yet to confirm whether he accepts the one-year contract.

Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports has the same expectation, claiming that “it’s hard to envision Rodgers netting anything more than a two-year deal,” making a contract valid through the 2025 NFL season more likely.

However, the analyst notes that “it’s possible a two-year pact would enable the acquiring team to better spread out his money, either via a ‘dummy’ second season or a player/team option.”

Rodgers’ potential salary in 2025, revealed

While the length of the deal is projected to be no longer than a year due to Rodgers’ age, his potential salary does raise a big question mark. Not long ago, an insider predicted Rodgers could get more than expected with the Steelers.

Benjamin, however, has poured cold water on those rumors, claiming that Rodgers’ “financial floor” might be around $25 million a year. That would be less than the $37.5 million per year he earned with the New York Jets, but let’s keep in mind that Rodgers signed that deal in 2023. He’s two years older now.

If $25 million is the floor, then Rodgers’ financial ceiling is probably about $35 million per year,” Benjamin added, noting that a deal worth $40 million per season is unlikely, despite reports that suggested that number.

Considering that $25 million would be the minimum and $35 million the highest he could make in a year, Benjamin concludes that Rodgers’ contract with the Steelers could be worth approximately $30 million for the 2025 NFL season.

Rodgers still mysterious about his future

Only Rodgers knows what will be the next step in his career. Pittsburgh is the only team that guarantees him a starting spot for the 2025 NFL season, as the front office is patiently waiting for his final decision. However, it appears that Tomlin and the Steelers have already identified a potential alternative to Rodgers.

The Vikings want to work out McCarthy first, and they’d only turn to Rodgers if they’re unconvinced about the second-year QB. Besides these two teams, retirement could be a third option for the former Green Bay Packers star.
