NFL News: Aaron Rodgers reportedly made big promise to Mike Tomlin and Steelers

Aaron Rodgers could have guaranteed to the Pittsburgh Steelers that he would sign with them, according to a report from Jeremy Fowler. The information from the prestigious insider points out that there is a sense around the league that this is the only way to explain the patience shown by Mike Tomlin’s team.

“The Pittsburgh Steelers remain optimistic and they are willing to wait. In fact, I’ve talked to several people in the quarterback market, including in and around Russell Wilson’s free agency, who just figure that the Steelers must have gotten some sort of loose assurance on Rodgers at some point that he’s going to play there.”

However, other reports have also indicated that Rodgers is actually waiting for the Vikings to not be convinced by J.J. McCarthy, so he can receive a call. That would be his desired opportunity with a strong roster to pursue a Super Bowl.

Aaron Rodgers seems close to signing with the Steelers, but Fowler warns that, as is customary with the quarterback, everything could change at the last moment. What is certain is that the insider believes, based on what he’s heard, that Pittsburgh must have some sort of guarantee to be acting so calmly.

“Based on everything I’m hearing, they are willing to wait this out. They believe that Rodgers must have some sort of assurance from the Steelers, or vice versa, that they could end up together. They’ve already talked contract potential parameters. He visited with the team. It appears that nothing is imminent right now. You can expect the unpredictable with Aaron Rodgers.”
