Ben Roethlisberger spoke again about Aaron Rodgers on his podcast Footbahlin and sent a clear message to the veteran. Faced with the challenge of learning a new offense, he canāt delay his possible arrival to the Pittsburgh Steelers for too long.
āA much bigger deal is him getting here to learn the offense unless heās sitting at home with the playbook. My thing is like, Aaron has played in a West Coast system like forever. From what Iāve been told, this is not a West Coast system. Thatās verbiage. Thatās terminology. Now, Aaron is an incredibly smart man. So, do I think he could pick it up? Absolutely. But thereās also something to be said about being on the field with guys at practice to see how guys run routes. To do things, to communicate, to let them hear your voice in the huddle. To hear your cadence, to hear your audibles and all that stuff.ā
Although Big Ben encourages Rodgers to sign soon, itās well known that the former Super Bowl champion with the Packers doesnāt particularly enjoy participating in OTAs or mandatory minicamp. That could be a factor in why the announcement still isnāt official.
Who will be Steelers starting QB in 2025?
Ben Roethlisberger is convinced that Aaron Rodgers will be the starting quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, Big Ben also emphasizes that he needs to start working soon to adapt to Arthur Smithās offensive scheme.
āThe coach and you need to get on the same page, so that when coach is calling plays, he knows what you like and what you donāt like. Then, when youāre changing things, he understands why youāre changing it and what youāre changing it to. Aaron can play the game, but getting on the same page with guys that youāve never played before, thatās a big deal.ā
