Derek Carr officially announced his retirement from football in a decision that has surprised the entire NFL. After several reports about his right shoulder injury, the quarterback will no longer play for the New Orleans Saints.

ā€œUpon reflection of prayer, and in discussion with Heather, I’ve decided to retire from the National Football League. For more than 11 years, we have been incredibly blessed, and we are forever grateful and humbled by this experience. It’s difficult to find the right words to express our thanks to all the teammates, coaches, management, ownership, team officials and especially the fans who made this journey so special. Your unwavering support has meant the world to us.ā€

For several weeks, Carr spoke with the Saints medical staff about his situation, and both sides came to the conclusion that it was best to say goodbye. Now, the team is in a very complicated situation at the quarterback position, although there is the possibility of looking for names like Aaron Rodgers.

The big name available is Aaron Rodgers, or perhaps a veteran like Carson Wentz. Another option is Kirk Cousins, but it’s almost impossible that the Falcons could trade any player to help a rival in the NFC South.
